Passages: Dreams and Inspiration
Oct 5, 7:00 PM, Lakepoint Community Church, Oxford, MI
As you might have noticed, all the videos I produce on this stack travel under the banner, “Passages.” This was the name of a variety/radio show I directed every year that occurred within a three day ministry and theology conference, Streaming. We’re not having the conference anymore, but Passages will continue in different forms.
(Caryl Mack and Scott Parker perform at Passages)
One form is a live show, and we’re having our first Oct 5 in Oxford, MI followed by a second in Portland, Or, Nov 23. The theme of both will be “Dreams and Inspiration.” Both will include live music, art, interviews, and readings. Both will benefit the work of 1528 Collaborative.

A special guest at our Oxford show will be Ro Diaz, an acclaimed painter. https://www.rolandodiazfineart.com/. Ro paints live and has agreed to donate the painting he does that night to 1528. We are thrilled.
We will also be having silent auctions for both shows. To donate something for either auction, contact me, mark@1528collaborative.org.
I credit the idea for Passages to three sources: Prairie Home Companion, Tokens, and the writings of Nick Hornby. Hornby uses music to carry other themes in both his novels and essays. My favorite movie is High Fidelity, starring John Cusack and Jack Black, an adaptation of Hornby’s novel by the same name. It’s set primarily in a record store and the music is phenomenal. But the movie is not about music—not primarily. It’s about the difficulty of relationships and commitments in a culture absent traditional norms. It’s not a sermon or an essay. It’s less direct. Hornby uses music to talk about other things, often using the more indirect form of a narrative—novels and music—to carry his message.
Passages hopes to do something similar. We’re delivering theology in a more indirect way, and in doing so hope to alert our audience to other cultural “passages” worth our attention.
As a reminder, 1528 Collaborative is a non-profit committed to providing resources for churches and their leaders to adapt and thrive in a new missional era.
